Viewpoint’s Sixth through Twelfth Grade Strings Students Shared the Gift of Music with Our Community on Giving Tuesday

Embracing the spirit of generosity on Giving Tuesday, Viewpoint’s Middle and Upper School Orchestra, alongside Middle School Beginning and Sixth Grade Strings, shared the gift of music at our Strings Concert in the Carlson Family Theater (CFT) on November 28.

Each group showcased their talent with three to four captivating pieces during the concert. Middle School Beginning Strings delighted the audience with classics such as “Dreidl," “Twinkle,” and “Jingle Bells.” Meanwhile, Sixth Grade Strings performed “Frog in a Tree” by Edmund J. Siennicki, “Where the River Shannon Flows” by James I. Russell, and “Bach Country Fiddles” by Richard Meyer. Middle School Orchestra students impressed the audience with performances of “Dance Scenario” by Elliot Del Borgo, “Annie Laurie” by David Bobrowitz, and “Russian Sailor’s Dance” by Reinhold Glière. In perfect unison, the students in our Upper School Orchestra closed the concert with “Concerto Grosso” by Arcangelo Corelli, “Pastorale ad libitum,” “Fantasy on Amazing Grace” by Robert Kerr, and the enchanting “Romanian Folk Dances” by Bella Bartok.

In addition, the Sixth Grade Violin Trio showcased their talent with a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's “Gavotte”, followed by captivating renditions of “Allegro from Fantasia 4,” “Allegro from Fantasia 2,” and “Minuet from Dance Suite in G” by G.P. Telemann. Furthermore, a dynamic Violin Quartet took the stage, delivering a mesmerizing performance of Antonio Vivaldi's “Concerto in B minor, F IV, No. 10”

“I'm incredibly proud of our students. They've shown remarkable progress since the beginning of the year when we first started rehearsing," shared Dr. Kristin Herkstroeter, Viewpoint’s Music Department Chair. "With sixth grade, in particular, the progress is most evident as we focused extensively on honing their ensemble skills. Overall, every single student rose to the occasion and delivered a truly impressive performance.”

As we prepare for Winter Break and the holidays, our Viewpoint community is looking forward to our Sixth through Twelfth Grade Choir Concert on December 5, at 7:00 p.m., and our Sixth through Twelfth Grade Band Concert, on December 12, at 7:00 p.m. Music has the power to make us feel, heal, and connect, so we hope you’ll join us at these upcoming performances.
