Swinging for Success: Allison Kim ’26 Shares Her Path to the CIF Regional Golf Tournament

Congratulations to Allison Kim ’26 for her outstanding achievement in qualifying for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Regional Golf Tournament on Wednesday, October 25 at the Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks. Allison's accomplishment is particularly remarkable as it coincides with the second year since the establishment of the girls' golf team at Viewpoint School, underscoring the progress and success of our young athletes.

“We have a league tournament with fifteen golfers and Allison came in fourth place which qualified her for the CIF,” said Brendan Smith, Head Girls Golf Coach at Viewpoint.

Allison joined the Viewpoint Girls Golf Team during her freshman year when the team was first founded. As one of the few players on the team with prior golf experience, she played a crucial role in leading the team to a second-place finish in the league finals.

Allison reveals that her passion for golf ignited at the age of eight while playing with her dad. However, it wasn't until the onset of the pandemic that she truly embraced the sport with consistency.

“I’ve technically only started playing golf as an actual sport for around three years or so,” said Kim. “I’d say it’s going pretty well so far.”

Leading up to the CIF, Allison and her team have been training at various courses multiple times a week. Beyond the school grounds, she and her father engage in joint practice sessions to boost her confidence in preparation for the upcoming tournament. Allison expressed that her engagement in this sport has not only enhanced her athletic skills, but has also brought about positive changes in different aspects of her life.

“Golf is a sport based on honor code,” said Kim. “Being honest, taking responsibility, and just trying your best every time are important traits and skills that the sport teaches you.”

"Every new shot in golf is an opportunity to take the experience you have gained at that specific moment in your life, learn from it, and use it as a stepping stone for growth before you attempt your next shot," said Smith.
